In a moment that had baseball fans both laughing and cringing, Blue Jays manager John Schneider was caught on a hot mic expressing unfiltered frustration at home-plate umpire Will Little during Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV+. The moment occurred in the bottom of the first inning during Toronto’s game against the Orioles.
With runners on both corners and one out, Andrés Giménez appeared to have been hit on the foot by a breaking ball in the dirt while trying to check his swing. However, Will Little ruled it a swing, calling him out for strike three. The discrepancy prompted Giménez to argue—and to the surprise of viewers, out came manager Schneider from the dugout to back his player up.
As the broadcast’s Apple TV+ hot mic captured the interaction, Schneider’s incredulous voice rang clear:
“How the f–k are you gonna call that?”
Little stood his ground, stating, “But we’ve got a swing, so we’ve got a dead ball.” Despite the fiery exchange, no ejections were issued, and the game continued uninterrupted.
Toronto failed to score in that opening inning — but bounced back in the fourth, putting up five runs to take a 5–2 lead, including knocking Charlie Morton, the Orioles starter, out after just 3⅓ innings.
