Doña Ana County Sheriff Deputy N. Al-Abayad, left, and Detective Alan Barbosa transport a body bag containing the bones of a migrant, first found by volunteers with Battalion Search and Rescue, on May 3, 2025. The discovery of migrant bodies in the desert has spiked since El Paso joined Texas’ Operation Lone Star.

In a major act of humanitarian generosity, the Pardes family of San Diego has pledged an unprecedented $35 million to support victims and bolster ongoing search and rescue operations following the recent catastrophic event that has gripped the nation.

The donation, announced early this morning, will be distributed across multiple relief agencies and first responder organizations, providing urgent aid to communities affected by the crisis. While details of the specific disaster are still emerging, sources confirm that thousands remain missing or displaced.

“The Pardes family has a long-standing tradition of philanthropy, but this contribution marks one of their most significant commitments to date,” said Mayor Carla Thompson of San Diego during a press briefing. “Their generosity will directly impact the speed and scale of emergency response efforts—and, more importantly, will help save lives.”

According to a spokesperson for the Pardes Foundation, the funds will be allocated toward immediate medical support, shelter, food distribution, and high-tech equipment for ongoing rescue operations. A portion will also be directed to trauma counseling services for victims and families impacted by the tragedy.

“We are heartbroken by the devastation and loss,” said David Pardes, speaking on behalf of the family. “This is not just a donation—it’s a call to action. We hope others will join us in supporting those who need us most right now.”

Local and national response teams have been overwhelmed in recent days, citing the scale of the destruction and difficult terrain in the affected zones. Officials say the infusion of funding will provide a much-needed boost to ground efforts that have been slowed by logistical and resource challenges.

The Pardes family has previously contributed to global education initiatives, healthcare programs, and environmental causes, but this marks their most urgent response to a domestic crisis.

More updates to follow as the situation develops.
