In a move that has stunned fans and sent ripples through the NBA community, the Dallas Mavericks have officially parted ways with head coach Jason Kidd, multiple sources confirmed early Friday morning. The decision comes on the heels of a disappointing playoff run and mounting frustration within the organization over the team’s inconsistent performance this past season.

According to insiders close to the situation, the Mavericks’ front office had grown increasingly frustrated with Kidd’s inability to maximize the potential of a star-studded roster, led by All-Star guard Luka Dončić and recent addition Kyrie Irving. Despite high expectations, the Mavericks were eliminated in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, leading to widespread speculation about Kidd’s future with the team.

“Ownership and upper management expected a deep postseason run,” one source said. “When that didn’t happen — and considering the way the team lost crucial games down the stretch — it became clear that a change was needed.”

In addition to Kidd, several assistant coaches on the staff have also been dismissed, suggesting a full-scale overhaul is underway. The Mavericks have not yet announced who will serve as interim head coach or when a permanent replacement will be named.

Jason Kidd, who was hired by Dallas in 2021, led the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2022 but struggled to replicate that success in the following seasons. Despite his deep ties to the organization — having played for the Mavericks during his NBA career — his coaching tenure has been marked by highs and lows.

Fans have taken to social media to express mixed reactions. Some are applauding the decision as a bold but necessary step, while others are lamenting the lack of stability and frequent coaching changes in recent years.

With this firing, the Mavericks now enter a critical period, facing the dual challenge of finding a new head coach while keeping their superstar core engaged and motivated heading into the 2025–2026 season.
