DEAL APPROVED: Netflix Release “The UnderDog”, a Highly Anticipated Documentary About Indiana Pacers Legend Reggie Mi……see more

Drafted 11th overall in 1987 by the Indiana Pacers, Miller was famously booed by fans on draft night who wanted Indiana native Steve Alford. But over the next 18 seasons, Miller would win them over with his clutch shooting, fearless trash talk, and unwavering loyalty to the franchise.

The documentary will revisit iconic moments like his 8 points in 9 seconds against the Knicks, his legendary battles with Spike Lee, and his role in transforming the Pacers into perennial playoff contenders. It also touches on personal struggles and triumphs, including his relationship with sister Cheryl Miller—herself a basketball legend—and his complex role as both villain and hero in the eyes of fans.

Star-Studded Interviews and Archival Gold

Netflix revealed that the film includes interviews with basketball greats like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant (via archive), Charles Barkley, and modern sharpshooters like Stephen Curry, who cite Miller as a major influence. Cheryl Miller, Pacers teammates like Rik Smits and Jalen Rose, and even longtime rival Spike Lee also appear.

LeBron James, who serves as an executive producer, said in a statement: “Reggie Miller was one of the first players who showed the world that heart could beat hype. He never got the respect he deserved—until it was too late. This documentary is here to fix that.”

Anticipated Impact

Sports media analysts are already predicting “The Underdog” could become one of Netflix’s most-watched sports docs, in the vein of The Last Dance and Untold. With growing demand for deep, character-driven sports storytelling, the platform is betting big on Miller’s legacy to connect with audiences across generations.

The documentary’s release also coincides with renewed calls for Miller to be more prominently featured in all-time NBA rankings and historical discussions—something “The Underdog” might help correct.

Release Details

“The Underdog” will premiere globally on Netflix on August 15, 2025, and be available in over 190 countries. A limited theatrical run in select cities is also planned, alongside promotional Q&A screenings with the filmmakers and Miller himself.
