In a powerful demonstration of philanthropy and community leadership, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell has announced a $7.5 million personal investment to convert a historic mansion on Cleveland’s east side into a full-service shelter and resource center for homeless youth.
The facility, named “Spida’s Haven,” will provide emergency housing, mental health services, educational support, and career training to young people aged 14–24 experiencing homelessness.
“This city has embraced me as more than a player — it’s become a second home,” Mitchell said at a press conference this morning. “I wanted to give something back that will truly make a difference. Every kid deserves a chance to feel safe, supported, and seen.”
The project is being developed in partnership with local nonprofits and the City of Cleveland, with plans to open in early 2026. The mansion, previously a private estate near the Glenville neighborhood, will be remodeled to include 25 beds, a community kitchen, counseling offices, and a tech lab.
Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb praised Mitchell’s commitment:
“This is what real leadership looks like — stepping up off the court to change lives. Donovan’s generosity will have an impact for generations.”
Mitchell has a long track record of advocacy and charity work, but this marks his largest single philanthropic investment to date. The Cavaliers organization has also pledged additional funding and resources to support the center’s programmin
