In a monumental development that is sending shockwaves across the hockey world, the Vancouver Canucks have announced that franchise legend Henrik Sedin is officially returning to the organization—not behind the bench or in the front office, but as a co-owner.
In a joint statement issued today, the Aquilini family, current majority owners of the Canucks, confirmed that Sedin will be joining the ownership group ahead of the 2025–26 NHL season. The move brings one of the greatest players in franchise history back into the heart of the team he helped define for over two decades.
“We are thrilled to welcome Henrik back, not just as a Canuck, but as a partner and steward of this team’s future,” said Francesco Aquilini. “Henrik’s leadership, class, and deep roots in this city and organization make him the perfect addition to our ownership group.”
Sedin, who spent his entire 17-season NHL career in Vancouver, is widely regarded as one of the greatest two-way centers in modern hockey. Alongside his twin brother Daniel, Henrik was a force on the ice—earning the Hart Trophy and Art Ross in 2010, serving as captain from 2010 to 2018, and becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.
“Vancouver has always been home,” Henrik Sedin said during the announcement at Rogers Arena. “This organization gave me everything, and now I want to help guide its future. I’m incredibly proud and humbled to return as a co-owner.”
While Henrik and Daniel Sedin have both served in player development and advisory roles since their retirement in 2018, this marks the first time a former Canuck player has joined the ownership ranks.
Further details about Sedin’s role, financial stake, and vision for the team’s future are expected to be shared in a formal press conference later this week.
