Could Ceddanne Rafaela be the next Pete Crow-Armstrong? The Red Sox hope so Read more at…
With elite defense, raw athleticism, and emerging offensive tools, Ceddanne Rafaela is quickly becoming a name to watch in Boston. But as his stock rises, comparisons to other standout young center fielders have begun to surface—most notably, Cubs’ defensive dynamo Pete Crow-Armstrong.
The question now: Could Rafaela become the Red Sox’s version of PCA?
Rafaela, 24, has showcased his Gold Glove-caliber defense in center field while adding versatility by playing multiple premium positions. His speed, range, and instinct in the outfield mirror what made Crow-Armstrong one of the most hyped defensive prospects in years. Add to that a surprising uptick in power and improving plate discipline, and it’s no wonder the Red Sox see a potential franchise cornerstone.
“He’s got that same defensive motor as Pete,” one team scout noted. “But what really excites us is how the bat is coming along.”
While Crow-Armstrong has solidified himself in Chicago as an elite glove-first center fielder, Rafaela is now carving a similar path in Boston—albeit with a slightly more aggressive approach at the plate. If he can maintain consistency with the bat, his ceiling may even surpass Crow-Armstrong’s.
