can only be described as a historic and career-defining season, George Springer, the veteran outfielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, has etched his name into the record books. The 35-year-old slugger became the first player in franchise history to lead the American League in runs scored, capping off a phenomenal 2025 campaign that defied expectations and reaffirmed his place among baseball’s elite.

Springer, known for his electric bat and explosive energy at the top of the lineup, finished the regular season with 129 runs scored, a mark that not only led the AL but also set a new Toronto Blue Jays single-season record. The previous franchise high was 127 runs, set by Shawn Green in 1999.

A Season for the Ages

Coming into 2025, many analysts questioned how much Springer had left in the tank. But the veteran silenced critics early, jumping out to a hot start in April and never slowing down. He consistently set the tone as the Blue Jays’ leadoff hitter, combining power, patience, and savvy baserunning to terrorize opposing pitchers.

In addition to his league-leading run total, Springer posted a .288 batting average, 34 home runs, and 92 RBIs, along with a career-high .390 on-base percentage. His ability to get on base and score runs was instrumental in helping the Blue Jays stay competitive in a tightly contested AL East division.

Manager John Schneider praised Springer’s leadership and resilience throughout the season.

“George was the heart and soul of this team in 2025,” Schneider said in a post-game press conference. “He came in with a chip on his shoulder and played every game like it mattered. To lead the league in runs at this stage in his career—it’s incredible.”

Breaking Barriers in Blue Jays History

While Toronto has boasted plenty of offensive stars over the years—Carlos Delgado, José Bautista, Josh Donaldson—none had ever claimed the runs scored title. Springer’s achievement adds a significant milestone to his resume and to the Blue Jays’ franchise history.

His historic season has also reignited MVP discussions, with many believing Springer should receive serious consideration for the award, particularly given his all-around impact on the game.
