Netflix has just dropped the trailer for The UnderDog, a groundbreaking new documentary chronicling the rise of Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with the full release scheduled for October 18, 2025.
The feature-length documentary promises an intimate look into Gilgeous-Alexander’s journey from a quiet kid in Hamilton, Ontario, to becoming one of the NBA’s most electrifying and respected talents. With never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes access, The UnderDog explores SGA’s rise through high school, Kentucky, draft night doubts, and his transformation into a franchise cornerstone and MVP candidate.
Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Ava Coleman and produced in collaboration with SpringHill Entertainment (LeBron James’ production company), the film also features appearances from NBA legends, teammates, coaches, and family members who helped shape his journey.
Netflix describes the film as:
“A story of grace, grit, and greatness — The UnderDog captures the quiet fire of a player who let his game do the talking and changed the course of a franchise.”
Fans can expect deep dives into pivotal moments like the blockbuster trade that brought Gilgeous-Alexander to OKC, his historic 2022-23 breakout season, and his leadership role in guiding a young Thunder team back into playoff contention.
The UnderDog will be available globally on Netflix starting October 18, 2025, just days before the NBA regular season tips off — positioning it as a must-watch for basketball fans and sports documentary lovers alike.
