CAN’T BELIEVE YOU ARE GOING: Colorado Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar Tendered a Resignation Letter Just Minutes Ago Following Team Tensions

In a jaw-dropping turn of events, Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar has reportedly tendered his resignation letter just minutes ago, sending shockwaves through the NHL and leaving fans and players in disbelief.

According to sources close to the organization, the decision came after a heated closed-door meeting with upper management, following what insiders are calling “months of internal friction, growing player unrest, and philosophical differences about the future of the team.”

“He walked out of that meeting visibly emotional,” a team staffer (who asked to remain anonymous) told The Ice Report. “Nobody thought it would come to this. But he’s done. He left his resignation letter on the desk and didn’t look back.”

The surprise resignation follows a rocky offseason for the Avalanche, who were eliminated early in the playoffs for the second straight year despite a loaded roster. Tensions have reportedly been brewing between Bednar and the front office over roster construction, player usage, and long-term vision for the team.

A Storied Tenure Ends Abruptly

Jared Bednar, 53, has been at the helm of the Avalanche since 2016, leading the team to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2022 and multiple deep playoff runs. Under his leadership, the Avs became one of the most feared teams in the NHL.

His abrupt resignation leaves the team without a clear direction just weeks before training camp.

“I’m stunned,” said Avalanche captain Nathan MacKinnon when reached for comment. “We all are. Jared wasn’t just a coach — he was part of the Avalanche identity. It’s hard to imagine the locker room without him.”

What’s Next for the Avalanche?

With Bednar gone, assistant coach Nolan Pratt is expected to step in as interim head coach, though the team has not yet made an official announcement. A press conference is expected in the coming hours.

Rumors are already swirling about possible successors, including Bruce Boudreau, Gerard Gallant, and even Patrick Roy, who coached the Avs from 2013–2016.
