In a surprising and untimely blow to the Indiana Pacers, defensive anchor and long-time franchise center Myles Turner has officially been ruled out for their next game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2025 NBA Summer League, following a recent undisclosed injury setback during team preparations.

Sources close to the organization revealed that Turner experienced soreness and swelling in his right ankle after participating in a private training session earlier this week. While initial reports suggested the discomfort was minor, team doctors recommended he sit out as a precautionary measure to avoid aggravating the condition, especially after a physically grueling postseason.

A Major Loss for Indiana’s Frontcourt

Turner, known for his elite shot-blocking, rim protection, and improved offensive game, has been a key figure in Indiana’s resurgence. He played a pivotal role during the Pacers’ recent playoff run and was expected to mentor young big men during Summer League development camps. His absence will undoubtedly affect the team’s defensive intensity and on-court leadership in the upcoming game.

“We’re disappointed not to have Myles suit up against Cleveland,” said Head Coach Rick Carlisle. “He’s a vital piece of what we’re building. But his long-term health is our top priority, and we’re being cautious.”

Who Steps Up?

With Turner sidelined, the coaching staff is expected to give extended minutes to Isaiah Jackson, Jarace Walker, and Oscar Tshiebwe, who have all shown flashes of promise in limited opportunities. This could also be a defining moment for the Pacers’ younger talents to make a statement and earn future rotation spots.

Turner has yet to comment publicly on the development, but team insiders suggest the injury is not considered serious, and he is undergoing daily rehab with the intention of returning for upcoming off-season events and preseason training.

Looking Ahead

The Pacers are set to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 10, 2025, in Las Vegas as part of their Summer League slate. Despite Turner’s absence, the team remains optimistic, with fans eager to see how the younger core adapts under pressure.
