Netflix has officially dropped the long-awaited sports documentary, “The UnderDog”, chronicling the incredible journey of Fernando Tatis Jr. Givens, a local legend whose rise from the heart of Pardes San Diego to national fame has inspired millions.

Slated for release this Friday, August 15, “The UnderDog” offers an unfiltered, emotionally charged look at Givens’ life, detailing his early struggles, raw talent, and the unlikely path that turned him into a symbol of perseverance and community pride.

Produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay and featuring interviews with teammates, coaches, and childhood friends, the documentary blends rare footage, candid commentary, and powerful storytelling.

“Givens represents more than just athletic talent—he’s a cultural force born from the streets of San Diego and molded by adversity,” said DuVernay in a statement. “His story needed to be told.”

“The UnderDog” is already drawing early Oscar buzz and is expected to dominate streaming charts worldwide.
