In a stunning development that has sent shockwaves through the basketball world, the University of Kentucky has officially signed former Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson as its new men’s basketball head coach. The deal, which includes a reported £50 million compensation package, marks one of the most expensive coaching acquisitions in college basketball history.

Jackson, who landed in Lexington just minutes ago, was quickly ushered into a closed-door meeting with UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart before the official announcement was made. The contract reportedly extends until the 2031 season, signaling the university’s long-term commitment to return to dominance on the national stage.

Jackson replaces former head coach John Calipari, who stepped down earlier this year after a 15-year tenure with the Wildcats. Known for his motivational leadership and ability to develop young talent, Jackson brings a wealth of NBA experience, including a key role in laying the foundation for the Warriors’ dynasty.

“I’m honored and excited to be joining the Big Blue Nation,” Jackson said in a brief statement. “This is a program with a rich legacy, and I’m ready to bring it back to where it belongs — at the top.”

The move comes as part of Kentucky’s aggressive strategy to regain its position as a powerhouse in college basketball following several underwhelming seasons.
