Netflix has officially announced the release date of its latest sports documentary, “The Underdog,” spotlighting one of the most iconic running backs in football history: Adrian Peterson. The film will premiere globally on October 18, 2025, and is expected to captivate audiences with the raw, powerful story of a man whose resilience, strength, and unmatched work ethic made him a legend.

“Adrian Peterson’s journey is one of perseverance, pain, and purpose,” said Netflix’s Head of Sports Programming James Rollins. “The Underdog will show fans the man behind the stats — and the legacy that still inspires athletes today.”

From Texas to the Top: The Story of “All Day”

Adrian Peterson — nicknamed “All Day” for his relentless energy — first rose to fame as a standout running back at the University of Oklahoma, where he set NCAA records and electrified college football with his power and speed. The documentary dives deep into his record-breaking freshman year, his battle with injuries, and his legendary performances that eventually made him a top 10 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

The film follows Peterson’s meteoric rise with the Minnesota Vikings, including his 2,097-yard season in 2012, just months after tearing his ACL — a comeback widely regarded as one of the greatest in sports history.

Exclusive Footage and All-Star Interviews

Directed by Allen Hughes (of “The Defiant Ones”) and produced by SpringHill Entertainment and Peterson’s own AP28 Productions, the film features never-before-seen footage from his college years, NFL career, training sessions, and personal life.

The documentary also includes interviews with:

  • Bob Stoops (former Oklahoma Sooners head coach)

  • Adrian Peterson’s parents and brother

  • NFL legends like Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and Tom Brady

  • Teammates including Brett Favre, Larry Fitzgerald, and Chad Greenway

  • Sportscasters and analysts like Stephen A. Smith, Kirk Herbstreit, and Erin Andrews

“There are athletes. And then there’s Adrian Peterson,” said Barry Sanders in the trailer. “He wasn’t just born with talent. He was born with something deeper — a fire that wouldn’t quit.”

A Story of Triumph, Setbacks, and Legacy

“The Underdog” doesn’t shy away from the complexities of Peterson’s journey. The film addresses his injury battles, legal issues, and the controversies that tested his reputation and resolve. But through it all, Peterson’s relentless drive and commitment to redemption are portrayed with honesty and depth.

Viewers will also see the human side of the star — his role as a father, mentor, and motivational speaker, as well as his passion for giving back through youth camps and charitable initiatives in Texas and Oklahoma.

Fan Anticipation on the Rise

Since the announcement, social media has been buzzing with excitement. #TheUnderdogNetflix and #AllDayStory have trended across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok.

“Adrian Peterson is the reason I play football. I’m beyond ready to see his full story,” posted one Oklahoma Sooners fan.
“He was built different. Nobody ran harder. This is long overdue,” added another fan on Reddit.
