CENTENNIAL PARK ATTACK: BABYSITTER ASSAULTED WITH DUMBBELL WHILE PROTECTING 4-YEAR-OLD

Denver, CO – A disturbing incident unfolded at Centennial Park yesterday afternoon, leaving a 25-year-old babysitter shaken.

At approximately 12:30 pm, witnesses reported a 33-year-old woman, allegedly residing in the park, approached a group of adults supervising children on the playground.

“The suspect’s behavior was extremely erratic,” said Denver Police Department spokesperson, Lt. Michael Smith.

Without provocation, the suspect allegedly assaulted the babysitter with a dumbbell, striking her multiple times in the back as she protected the 4-year-old child.

“The victim’s quick thinking and bravery likely prevented serious harm to the child,” Lt. Smith added.

The babysitter managed to escape the scene with the child, seeking safety in her vehicle while contacting authorities.

Officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Sarah Johnson, within the park.

Johnson faces charges of aggravated battery and child endangerment.

“We are investigating possible motives, including mental health concerns,” Lt. Smith said.

The victim declined medical treatment but is receiving support.

“This incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant in public spaces,” said Denver Mayor, Michael Hancock.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Denver Police Department.
