Here’s why Hawaii’s Marcus Mariota will wear No. 0 for the Washington Commanders

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii’s Marcus Mariota will be wearing the number 0 when he suits up for the Washington Commanders this season.

He changed it from his usual No. 8.

Mariota is the first NFL quarterback ever to wear 0.

The Saint Louis School graduate said he picked it because after 10 years in the NFL, most people believe he has zero chance to succeed.

“Zero is something for me that’s just a reminder,” Mariota said.

Throughout college and the NFL, Mariota has worn No. 8, signaling the eight Hawaiian islands.

He said with No. 0, he can put tape across it to create the eight during practice to still honor Hawaii.
