ESPN REPORT: Pittsburgh media pressured the Seattle Seahawks to trade Tyler Lockett to Russell Wilson’s Steelers

According to rumors, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to trade for a receiver to offer their new quarterback, Russell Wilson, who was previously the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, another weapon.

And in another Pittsburgh drive, the Steelers are reportedly attempting to acquire Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett rather than 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk.

According to Steelers Now, “Lockett just restructured his deal with the Seahawks this offseason, which would make a pre-June 1 trade costly for Seattle.” “If they sold Lockett today, the Seahawks would lose $8.9 million in cap space in addition to the projected costs, and there would also be a $27.8 million dead cap hit. However, if they waited until after June 1, a Lockett deal would save Seattle’s salary space in 2024 by $5 million and only have a $13.9 million dead cap charge this season. With just $4.67 million in guaranteed pay and $340,000 in roster incentives, Lockett would be a steal for the Steelers.

Everything is OK there. Lockett would undoubtedly be a great addition for Pittsburgh and provide Wilson, who was dealt to the Broncos by Seattle two years ago and was released by Denver this offseason, a reliable weapon.

As of present, Pittsburgh’s options in that area are limited to George Pickens.

However, the recommendation from the Steelers website falls short of providing a compelling argument for Seattle’s involvement in resolving Pittsburgh’s issues.

We understand that Lockett spent seven seasons as Wilson’s teammate in Seattle. However, he also comes off of a 2023 year in which he was a vital component of Seattle’s Geno Smith-led attack, catching 79 catches for 894 yards and five touchdowns.

We are aware of the trade rumors. Additionally, Lockett has hinted that he would rather stay in Seattle. Okay, the word “suggest” is too delicate. Recently, Lockett said, “Please don’t post any more trade requests for me. since I’ve been reading your articles about me being traded. Like, no.”

In summary, the Seahawks should strive to develop their talent rather than discard it if they truly believe they are competitive, which they should.
