BREAKING NEWS: How the Bruins can still win the regular season

With four games remaining, the Bruins will need wins and assistance, but they are still in competition for the best record in the NHL and the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

They only need to take care of business to win the Atlantic Division title. The playoffs are coming shortly, but the final four games will have an impact.

The Bruins are now in first position, with 107 points and four games remaining. They’re five points ahead of the Panthers, who have 102 and four games left.

The Panthers cannot score more than 110 points. Any combination of four points gained by Boston and not obtained by Florida secures Boston’s division title and a wild card matchup. Florida ends with four consecutive home games. They host Ottawa at home on Tuesday, then Columbus on Thursday, Buffalo on Saturday, and Toronto on April 16.

Mathematically, the Maple Leafs can still win. However, with five games remaining and 99 points, the maximum they may finish with is 109. The Leafs are out of division title contention if the Bruins collect two points and Toronto does not. Toronto, which defeated Pittsburgh on Monday, will play at New Jersey on Tuesday, followed by home games against New Jersey on Thursday and Detroit on Saturday. They’re in Florida on April 16 and Tampa on April 17.
