Packers sign a former Vikings kicker to increase competition at the position.

Green Bay — Following a rookie’s disappointing performance this season, the Green Bay Packers resorted to a former division opponent to help improve competition at kicker.

The Packers signed former Vikings kicker Greg Joseph to a one-year contract on Tuesday, according to Joseph’s agent, Brett Tessler.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst doesn’t fear the impending deal for this rising star.

Joseph, who converted 24 of 30 field-goal tries and 36 of 38 extra-point attempts for the Vikings last season, will battle with veteran kicker Anders Carlson and former University of Georgia kicker Jack Podlesny, whom the organization signed to a futures contract earlier this offseason.

As a rookie sixth-round pick last season, Carlson hit 27 of 33 of-goal tries and 34 of 39 extra points, but he missed a critical 41-yard fourth-quarter field goal in the team’s season-ending NFC divisional playoff loss to San Francisco.
