JuJu Smith-Schuster uncertain vs. Bengals with knee injury, concussion

This season, the New England Patriots’ wide receiver squad was below average, with rookie Demario Douglas leading the team in receiving yards (561).

The sixth-round choice surprise blossomed into one of the team’s more reliable receivers, which is incredible considering the Patriots began the season with Kendrick Bourne and Juju Smith-Schuster. Last offseason, New England signed Smith-Schuster to a three-year, $25 million contract.

If New England had re-signed Jakobi Meyers last summer, they would not have had to go through this. Meyers shockingly agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders after spending the first four years of his career with the Patriots.

However, the 27-year-old receiver told 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Felger & Mass Show on Monday that New England offered him $1 million less than the Raiders.

They just wouldn’t move. “At the end of the day, (Bill Belichick) did not want to move,” Meyers stated. “I respected it. Like it is his responsibility to do what is best for his team or what he believes is best for the team. It just didn’t connect with what I thought I was worth.

As previously noted, the Patriots could have benefited Meyers because their wide receiver unit failed this season. In his first season with the Raiders, the 6-foot-2 receiver recorded 71 receptions (87 targets) for 807 yards and eight touchdowns (a career high).

Meanwhile, Smith-Schuster has only 29 receptions (47 targets) for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games this season. He was placed on injured reserve after sustaining many injuries.
